Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Les entreprises pharmaceutiques pratiquant la recherche acqui\u00e8rent la majeure partie des animaux de laboratoire dont elles ont besoin sur le march\u00e9 international, en particulier en Europe, aupr\u00e8s d\u2019\u00e9leveurs certifi\u00e9s. En fonction du but de la recherche, les animaux employ\u00e9s dans une \u00e9tude doivent pr\u00e9senter des caract\u00e9ristiques bien pr\u00e9cises. Les exp\u00e9riences sur animaux sont standardis\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 r\u00e9duire la dispersion des r\u00e9sultats et donc aussi le nombre d\u2019animaux employ\u00e9s. La standardisation porte sur les conditions d\u2019h\u00e9bergement des animaux (facteurs exog\u00e8nes) et sur les animaux proprement dits (facteurs endog\u00e8nes comme l\u2019\u00e2ge, le sexe, le g\u00e9notype, l\u2019\u00e9tat physique et la physiologie). On d\u00e9finit \u00e9galement si une modification g\u00e9n\u00e9tique particuli\u00e8re est requise. La coop\u00e9ration avec des fournisseurs privil\u00e9gi\u00e9s (\u00abpreferred vendors\u00bb) assure la qualit\u00e9 des animaux voulue et le respect des sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9s demand\u00e9es. Un autre \u00e9l\u00e9ment capital est la standardisation de l\u2019\u00e9tat de sant\u00e9 des animaux. En effet, les animaux de laboratoire \u00e9lev\u00e9s pour des \u00e9tudes doivent \u00eatre exempts de germes et agents pathog\u00e8nes susceptibles de contaminer les autres animaux ou de fausser les r\u00e9sultats de l\u2019\u00e9tude.
